Hi all, ive just got my first landrover, 1993 200 tdi at a fair price. I can do abit with petrol cars, this will be my first 4x4/diesel to work on. So ill be on these forums a fair bit, trying to learn a thing or two.
Ok heres some things so far ive noticed.
1.when first started in morning she runs alittle lumpy, if it was a petrol id say sounded like it was miss firing when reved above 2000 rpm, once turbo kicks in couple times seems ok, also alittle smokey at start up. give it a couple revs and its runing good, once its driven down the street any clear signs of smoke from mirror is gone.
2.it has a manual gear box, sometimes gear changes are smooth and other times can be abit tight, i.e it can take second atemp at flooring clutch to get in gear( mrs doesnt like it lol) also sometimes is seems when switching to fourth gear it goes in no problem straight down from third, other times it doesnt go straight in, its like ive got to pull it down from third, when it doesnt go into fourth move the stick alitte to right and it goes in.. maybe linkage isnt lined up or clutch cable needs adjusted?
also can hear each gear change outside, kinda like you do with a lorry lol, doesnt bother me, might be related to the above.. when i press clutch pedal, its noisy/creeks lol
3.theres also a groan when turning steering, tyre pressure is ok and theres plenty fluid.
4.i had a problem other day when disco wouldnt start, the glow plug light wouldnt show when ignition was turned on, only battery and oil light did lighting up, it wouldnt turn over and other electrics wouldnt work.. i moved the big brown wire from positive terminal on batter to bulk head and it returned to normal. i removed plastic wire cover, no brakes in wire.. there is a few small brown wires that join into the big brown wire, clamp is tight..
5.also the full beam seems abit temperamental, other night it was turned on and off a few times and stoped working, its been ok since... ive noticed when normal beam is on, full beam blue light is slighty liten up, not like it is when full beam is on.
6.i have a smell if diesel fumes inside when driving, ive noticed where the exhaust joins the manifold/ downpipe its blowing alittle. am going to seal that and hope it stops it..
7. looks like water is driping from under thermostat onto top of alloy casing, need to fix asap
