Handbook says 10W40 or even 15W40 ACEA B2 engine oil for a TD4.

Eurocarparts website offering 5W40 B4 fully synthetic for my registration number. 150,000 miles plus. Just wondering whether that's a good idea? I like the idea of it getting to the turbo bearings that bit quicker from a cold start and being fully synthetic, it shouldn't thin out when I thrash it...

Does anyone else use 5W40 in their elderly M47 TD4?

5w40 full is good, 10w semi is also ok. I prefer 5w40 on td4s because is full syn and 10w40 is hard to find in that configuration.

I used Mannol Extreme 5w40 A3/B4 fully synthetic oil.
The official specification is a 5w30, but feel that is too light for an engine with more than 60k miles on it.

Thanks both. That's reassuring. Nodge, my handbook definitely says 10 or 15W40. Surely that's the definitive recommendation? (Although I'm sure oil technology has come on somewhat, since the turn of the Millennium)!

The manual for my 05 TD4 says 5w30 and I've used 5w30 Fuchs Titan fully synth since I've had the vehicle. However, on my next change I'll be using 5w40 Fuchs Titan as the old girl has been getting a little more clattery in her dotage.
