300 tdi oil cooler, is it nesessary ?

How many ss ss in nessesesary ffs.
Anyhow back to the question, Do I really need the radiator oil cooler when I put the 300tdi in me 110 ?
Not goin off roadin but will be doin a little towing.

Would that be because of the intercooler or the turbo or both ?

Cant se that it would get the oil that hot as the motors run cool dont they?

But shouldn't they run a little hotter?

There maybe a thermostat in the oilway to stop overcooling, or maybe not.
Must be for a good reason though so maybe I'll stick it all in as it came out of the Disco just in case.

Turbos get the oil bloody hot on long drives, I would not be keen not to have it.

After a longish motorway cruise the oil feed is sticking hot and the return is pretty cool so I would say it's doing a good job and really ought to be there.

If the oil gets too hot you will run into problems.

To hot oil = buggered turbo

I had an old rover diesel as a banger and I broke the oil cooler so I bypassed it, come the next race the oil boiled to clag and the turbo shattered.

Just wondering as my old 2.8 Isuzu turbo didn't have an oil cooler and it towed all sorts of weights long distances with out any problems of overheating, just basic cooling with a small header tank and never ever got hot even towing on a very hot day over the Pennines.
So whats up with the 300 tdi then as the zoo zoo was a bigger engine. Maybe answered my own question there I think:doh:

i aint got my oil cooler fitted, an their aint a thermostat in it either only a pressure valve.

Wanna fit it though so i can turn up the pump

I have managed to retro fit a large oil cooler to my tdi from an slitty wagon.I have also noticed a small fan on a aircon rad that i may fit to my oil rad if i feel keen.
