This problem surfaced recently and after investigation found that the HDC switch had had a crude spliced repair causing an intermittent connection.
Anyway , they're back again ,coincidently after I power washed underneath and around all four hubs prior to NCT /MOT test . The repaired wiring can be eliminated as it was all done properly with crimped connectors .
It's an early two pin brake switch so not that either.
All four sensors are testing at circa 950 ohms (static) .
After careful investigation their is a faint but noticable " skiffing " noise from the front hubs whilst driving when the fault occurs , slightly more noticable when cornering. It must also be said that the fault does not always occur when the car is driven, 70% of time all is OK. It usually can be forecast as when the ignition is switched on prior to starting the TC and ABS lamps are illuminated , these extinguish soon after driving off although taking longer than the 8mph required for the sole ABS light when all is normal. They soon return along with their third mate , HDC......!
I've removed the two front calipers removed & inspected the pistons , freed off and lub'd the sliders and rebuilt with new LR seal kits . The backing plates were checked for debris etc too so I can eliminate the brakes as being the source of the noise.
After searching and reading pages and pages on the 3 amigos I'm going to inspect the front toothed phonic rings that chop the EMF from the sensor as some have reported these rusting and /or detaching from the driveshaft and in one case shearing completely .
After looking at the RAVE disc it's difficult to determine if the rings are visable or how and where the best access point is for inspection.
Anyone give me some pointers as to accessing and inspecting these ?
