Test drove fine, 80k miles, full service history, very clean inside, out and underneath.

2nd time on the motorway overtaking @ 75mph the left hand yellow engine warning light flashed (the one without the ! mark) , flashed again, then stayed on, took my foot off the gas and it went out around 50mph.

Went up to 70mph and the light came on again, slowed down and returned it to the dealer for repair (this was a week ago and still trying to fix it), the garage says no record of any faults in the diagnostic tool.

Also the clutch has started to squeak right at the initial press down, and final lift up of foot, around the first inch i'd say. The dealer said this was just the spring, but its so irratating when changing gear, any thoughts?

Finally the right hand rear seat bracket which stops the seat from folding forward to increase boot space, creaks like hell when going over the smallest of bumps, i've added some grease to the U shape clip to no avail.

Starting to regret my purchase :(

It's just the odd warning light and a few squeaks? You've probably got one of the better Freelanders out there......

Just kidding mate welcome to the forum :). I know nothing about the TD4 as I drive a petrol, but we have some real doozle guru's here who will know some solutions.

If the clutch pedal spring is squeaky, get a new one on there or douse it with lubricant, see how that works. Can't quite visualise the problem you are having with the seat bracket, sounds like something is broken or loose - make sure all the fixings are nice and secure.

If this kind of thing really gets to you then you will find find Freelander ownership quite a trial. Mine develops these kinds of things on a monthly basis but I never get the same fault twice once I fix it and I'll get all the gremlins eventually.

Will.

oh yeah sorry, Hi guys LOL

I'm scarred for life with engine warning lights after my old car engine blew up beyond repair the last time an engine light came on

Hi Toprock
Could be the fuel pump under rear wheel arch, it is common for it to pack up at around that sort of mileage. Mine mine had similar fault earlier this year (engine went in to limp home mode at 3000 revs) could also be fuel filter again under rear wheel arch, these are sometimes missed at services due to being a pain to change. Also would be worth looking at turbo vent filter (rear of engine on left) this looks like a petrol filter and SHOULD BE OPEN AT ONE END. Hope this helps

Thanks for suggestions :)

*update

garage has replaced fuel pump and fuel filter.

They took it for a run on motorway and its a lot more powerful and no light so far. But they still reckon its not as it should be

not being right will most likelt be the EGR and inlet manifold caked up with soot/carbon too. Take it all off, clean all the crap out and I bet there'll be quite a bit too, she breathe like a new set of lungs

YOU HAVE BOUGHT A LAND ROVER

Sounds like you have a good one there.
Just check the subframe mounts for the noise you think is coming from the rear
seat.The captive nut tears free.

Read all the common fault threads and buy a good toolkit.
Wear earplugs or turn the radio up to 11.
Try and relax and enjoy Freelander ownership.

If you are of a nervous disposition, sell it and buy a Toyota or Honda etc.
Reliable but oh so boring and dull to drive.

Oh yes,
engine light sounds like turbo vanes sticking.
Probably had a previous careful owner.
It needs a jolly good thrashing and regular quality oil changes.
Just be careful of the Gearbox,Ird,propshaft,VCU,Rear diiff etc when administering the spanking.

Nothing wrong in being careful , Abuse will kill any motor eventualy :violin:

Not abuse just exercise.
If you don`t occasionally use the engine to its full potential it will clog up,like your arteries.
Just let the turbo spool dowe gently after the excercise.

My other Vehicles
VW Transporter T4, 246,000 miles
Audi Tdi, 198,000 miles
Wifes Skoda Fabia 122,000 miles (Used to go into limp mode when we first got it) Not now.
No Turbo problems with the other 2
