I would be grateful for any information or advice:
I have a 1988 3.5 Auto EFI RR and I understand from the ulez.co.uk site that cars which have had Euro 4 compliant engines fitted and can achieve the necessary emission standards are accepted as being ULEZ compliant.
Do you think such a conversion would be practical for my vehicle and, if so, what would be a good petrol engine to use and what other changes would be required (gearbox etc)?
Thanks
Doug

Would have the LS V8 would be an able candidate.. But if you’re paying someone else to do the conversion you might be needing deep pockets..and probably long arms too  :D

I fear there will be many owners in your position if/when the zone is extended to the M25 ring.
Good luck with your plans to keep a Classic on the road, but I suspect any solution involving engine transplants is unlikely :(

Talk to @Saint.V8 as he got stung by ULEZ shenanigans.

Not gonna be an easy process. CVRAS website has details about the options.

I do a weekly evening drive from Langley to Ealing, but luckily at the moment it's just outside the North Circular so no ULEZ, but Sadiq Khan wants to change this in 2023. Might need to buy a cheap ULEZ runabout for the weekly trip !!

Thanks for all your responses. The chap that services my RR has told me that one of his customers has had his Defender converted to Euro 4 compliance so I hoper to be able to speak to him and, if so, will update this thread.

I've got a nagging feeling someone like Saint ran into an issue where the website said one thing but the charging software database worked slightly differently and they said the website was only a rough guide. Of course, that was a few years ago and things change.
