HI everyone

Sorry this is a bit of a long one but here it goes ....
I recently joined your forum and i have been reading night & day my head is buzzing with all the information on here. ( Its all becoming a bit of a distraction from work, better be careful lol)

I am looking to buy a 130 Crew-cab Pickup for the following reasons
1, I can sign wright it up for my business
2, I can carry some of the equipment that we install to site as opposed to using curriers.
3, It will be of great benefit come the summer as we are intending to do quit a bit of caravanning / camping with the kids. (Better than using the transit this year)
4, Important- While towing the caravan we can carry either the jet ski or quads in the back.

I have read on here that the turning circle is sh1t but I'm sure i can live with that. The rear springs can be adopted to suit your use i.e. remove the inner spring to make it more comfortable under lighter loads this can only be a good thing.
But this leads me to my big questions
1, Is driving the 130 similar to driving the 110 in terms of comfort ? ( I realise its longer & possibly heavier& turning circle aside.
2, Which model is best 200tdi, 300tdi or the newer models with the Transit style engines ?
3, Has the suspension / handling improved on the newer models or is it mainly Engine / controls upgrades with the same running gear ?

I have searched the forum but not come across this information and if i have missed it i apologise in advance. Your expertise & input is much appreciated..

Driving the 130 is I would suspect VERY similar to the equivalent 110, as the interiors and a lot of other stuff is identical isn't it:confused::confused:
As for the engine, that seems to be a bit of a "How long is a piece of string" sort of question, ask 10 people, you'll probably get 10 different answers and reasons :confused:

I will point out though that I have never been in 130, these are just my initial thoughts, and could be complete crap ;);):D

what him said ^^^

One person will hate it others will say its not noticeable. As has been said before and will be said again, get out there and drive one of each. ;) :)

Thanks guys sounds like the way forward drive one of each.
The only way to know for sure what works.

I've got a 110 hi-cap. The turning circle is the equivalent of my old Disco.
I also drive a new 110 for work, and its like trying to turn an ocean liner around.

Strange.

With something like a 300tdi you can also wind the fuel pump up to give you a little more power. Did it to my Disco and it was much betterer.

Strange alright Sprogthedog you would have assumed newer would = better. ..
Is the newer 110 any more comfortable or much the same ? Thanks

If you don't really need the extra space of the 130 get a 110. Easier to drive, easier to park and there are loads more 110's about to choose from.

My 110 in a car park.

Can you spot it??!

Yeah thanks guys i need the extra length of the 130 as i figure the jet ski will only fit with the rear door dropped.
Yeah i think your 110 just about fits in the parking bay lol. I guess the 130 will be protruding about 20 inches beyond that ....
So the model from 07 on with the Transit engine should be a bit more comfortable than the model before ...

They get more refined as the get newer , the latest are the fastest and quietest especially as the have a 6 speed gearbox.
I personally prefer the the td5 as it sounds better and you still get the full land rover experience with the fresh air vents and the plain dash etc.

The pumas I find slightly claustrophobic although if you get a good one they are still great to own.

The 130 dc hcpu is a big jump up capacity wise from a 110 dc . It is a bit of a barge for three point (5 point) turns , but apart from that the ride is slightly more comfortable than a standard 110 , due the longer wheelbase. I owned a 300tdi version for a number of years , in Australia , so space usually wasn't a constraint ! . The defender as it has "progressed" has got further and further from its "raison detre" for cost reasons they have now got an engine that is a squeeze to get in due to its height, the reason for the bonnet bulge , and is a small engine working hard , not a good thing for a long service life . I would say a 300tdi or Td5 . JMHO

I would hope the 110 fits in the parking bay since they are only as long as a ford focus estate ;) (182 inches)

A Ford Mondeo (192 inches) is about a foot longer than the focus and 110

Defender 130 is about a foot longer than a Mondeo at 204 inches long

The 130 should ride better than the 110 on the motorway due to it's longer wheelbase.

Your average UK parking bay should be a minimum of 190 inches long.
