Just to finish off this post it was as simple as a fuse. Though I feel a bit daft to be honest it seems the power to light the binnacle comes from the ns sidelight and the fuse for this had blown. Check the obvious before thinking too far ahead is my lesson on this one I think. Nevertheless...

My 300tdi Defender is missing part of the air intake piping. It has the pipe that comes from the wing but not the part that connects it to the air filter housing. Same here, reservoir rusted at top, couldnt see it until it was off.

I would agree. Mine showed same symptoms, the pump was slow as it had been overworked topping up the resevoir continually but the tank had rusted on the top edge and was leaking. i think they are supposed to be at 10 bar or something like that which is a lot.

Bought this for my 1988 110 and its still wrapped up from the supplier, I never even got around to opening it never mind fitting it! Not worth posting as they are not huge amounts new but £5 for anyone near Huddersfieldif fancies collecting it.
