I had similar symptoms with my old 300Tdi disco. It was fine around town but when it was given some beans on the motorway or up hills it got hot. The fins on the radiator were in poor condition. A new radiator sorted it.

A decent car polish will remove the black spots. I used Mer on my old disco when it had the same. It takes some elbow grease too though.

From memory, the power steering from the P38 Range Rover can be made to fit or there are kits available at considerable cost.

I’d say £2k is a good starting point. EBay shows the market for Defenders isn’t what it was and as the company wants rid, they’re not getting any costs by selling it direct to you. If you’re feeling cheeky, try less!

Be wary of used sliders. I bought one on eBay with a pin ball hitch. One of the holes was elongated as a result of a very heavy trailer and possibly a too thin pin in the slider which caused wear in it.

Hi and welcome!
Judging by your previous landies, it was inevitable that you’d own one again at some point! Don’t forget to post a picture of it.

Hi and welcome!
Very impressed by driving the Landy home that distance straight after purchase, and even more so getting home under its own steam!
Any chance of some pics of the purchase? We like pics!

Hi and welcome!
I can’t help with any lanes in south wales but there’s always Salisbury Plain which isn’t too far…

Escalate it. Complain to the PCC.

I’m sure some sellers have unrealistic expectations of what things are worth.

Was the disco that the axle from involved in an accident before being stripped? Might explain if there is any damage to mountings meaning it doesn’t sit quite straight, although this would probably be picked up when fitting?
