Haha, it wasn't unseen, it was half the size of your landy and you reversed into it at least twice 🤣 I was watching... I have a ramp and a big hammer ....

I decided it would be a good idea to remove the sump and scrape any built up gunge oot! It has become rather rusty, and the contents would tell a story too, maybe one I didn't want to hear, but to get it really clean inside and restored outside...

I needed a no hole gasket which is the thickest and the new head came with a 3 hole. At last, it was begging it was beginning to feel like I was caught in a never ending time loop! And I really miss driving Peggy. I f'd up torquing all the...

Nearly there! Looks like a thorough job so far- hopefully it all pays off when you drive.

FlyingPete replied to the thread Chassis swap.
To be 100% legal, the replacement chassis should be an exact replacement. People have indeed just got on with it and had engine mounts repositioned and got away with it, but it's a bit of a grey area. As you're presumably using the original LT77...

With the right paint, you can simply hand-paint it with a brush and roller. I did my old 90 this way and it came out fine.

FlyingPete replied to the thread cabin heating.
Defender heaters can be pretty poor when neglected. I reverse-flushed mine with a garden hose and an impressive amount of orange crud came out! With cleaning out the air side, and some additional sealing up of gaps etc, this massively improved...

Sounds like you need a new thermostat, do not take the temperature gauge reading as gospel.

I've been in a Discovery with Insa Turbo Special Tracks fitted and the noise alone was unbearable at anything above about 50mph. Also, traction on road was pretty terrible. The Dakar is a better off-road biased tyre, but still quite noisy. They...

FlyingPete replied to the thread Halo Lights.
If they are DRLs, they need to be wired to an ignition-switched supply and dim or switch off when you turn on the side light. With the integrated indicator function, the DRL should switch off when indicating. As they are integrated into the...

You should be able to take an auxiliary ignition feed direct from the back of the ignition switch. Although I would not bother as personally dislike halo lights and think they are little tacky.

The rim diameter 16 inches is the important measurement to make sure you get a tyre that is also for a 16 inch rim. the next important measurement is then the rim width. If they are stander land rover rims the rim width will be 6 inches you will...

It's true, although how many have gone up in smoke due to electrical fires! If I was rebuilding one, I'd scrap the lot and update the wiring to something more advanced.
  • FlyingPete
Looking at the diagram, you realise how electrically dubious the stock wiring on a Series is! Half the circuits are protected by only three fuses, and the other half aren't protected at all. And no sign of any relays to take the load off the...

Isn't the wheelbase of a taxi the same as a 110? Taxi body/Landy chassis could make an interesting vehicle...

I agree that most retrofit installations are actually dangerous as often the only way in or out is to fold up one seat. So there's no way to quickly exit the vehicle in an emergency! The best thing to do with forward-facing aftermarket seats is...
  • FlyingPete
Eh??? Front facing rear seats in a 90 are horrid. No way to get in or out. Late model factory models have different seat boxes/wheel arches. But still horrid. Side facing seats are perfectly fine and legal and if you don’t fit seatbelts they...

As said it’s a good idea to check road wheel size and also count the teeth on your difs. Most wheels are changed for aesthetics rather than performance and sometimes the gearing of the differentials changed in an attempt to improve top speed...

FlyingPete replied to the thread Alternative Front Seats?.
In poor condition, Defender seats are rubbish. The foam falls to bits over the decades, making them lumpy and uncomfortable. The solution is to simply refurbish them, rather than mess around trying to fit other seats in there. New internal foams...

Very doubtful, I want access to the battery and/or tank without having to get spanners out. Seats also need to be robust and suitable for a 4x4 and laning. I also don't want seat risers at all! Good condition standard seats are the perfect seat...

Why? What is wrong with the standard seats.... I'm yet to see an improvement over a standard style seat.

You could also try cutting a slot in the thread along the length of a spare bolt and run that through, helps to scrape out the crud in the female thread.

It's like small number plates on bikes. Normally you won't get stopped for it but it gives them a reason to do so and then they can look for anything else they can do you for.

You my or my not be caught, but one thing is for certain. Putting them on a vehicle that is too new for them and only fitting for 'style' purposes is a truly w anker thing to do.
