Top one looks like an earth strap, lower one to the right looks like a tappet retainer bolt, Iirc these are lock wired in? they may have a copper washer underneath, so might just need nipping up.

Yes a good 4 inches taller in collapsed state, but they are two stage same as lr jacks and can go pretty high.

It might need skimming, but I have done a few 200 and 300 head gaskets, and have never skimemd one of them tbh never even checked them, clean up faces new gasket and go, also reused the head bolts, IIrc they can be reused up to 5 times.

Tbh not sure I just know there are r clips in mine, so assumed I drilled them as I have an r clip fetish, but I am moving onto ractor clips!

Drill a small hole in the end of both bolts, then fit an r clip to stop the bolts being removed with the bonnet closed.

The plate between the two gaskets does not look as rusty as the reat of it, so I would say you are correct and it is already blanked. Iirc on mine I removed the egr valve, fitted a blank plate to the exhaust manifold, and fitted a non egr top intercooler hose to get rid of the whole system.

Shorten them by an inch or so, that way you get to bolt them through fresh rubber.
